Famous Houses Map plots 3,423 historic houses: 2,265 house museums and 1,158 other buildings recorded as the residence of a notable person. 2,275 have their own page; 2,797 have a freely licensed photo.

Sources and licences

• Wikidata (CC0): house museums (items that are an instance of house museum or a subclass), the person each is named after, buildings recorded as a person's residence (P551), coordinates, dates, occupations and sitelink counts.
• Wikipedia (CC BY-SA 4.0): the short summaries on each page come from the Wikipedia REST summary API and link back to the source article.
• Wikimedia Commons: photos are shown only when the file has a clear free licence (public domain, CC0, CC BY or CC BY-SA); the author and licence are credited under each photo. Non-commercial or no-derivatives files are skipped.
• OpenStreetMap: map tiles © OpenStreetMap contributors.

Marker sizes and groups

Marker size reflects how widely the house and its associated person are covered across Wikipedia language editions (Wikidata sitelinks). Large photo markers are the best-known houses; small dots are lesser-known ones. Category groups come from the occupations recorded in Wikidata for the associated people.

Data comes from community-edited sources and can contain errors. Many residences are private homes: please respect privacy and check opening details with each house before visiting.
